The themis award at WTC Moscow

The 25th Themis Award Ceremony was held at WTC Moscow today. The mission of the Award is the development of legal science, a worthy assessment of the activities of Russian and foreign lawyers aimed at protecting the rights and legitimate interests of citizens.

Recently the World Trade Center Moscow’s Congress Center welcomed the XXV Fimida Award Ceremony - the oldest and one of the most prestigious awards in Russia.

Every year the highest insignia of the laureates - the statuette of the Greek goddess of justice Themis - is made according to the sketch of the famous Russian sculptor Mikhail Pereyaslavets. Among the main nominations of Themis are such as "Prosecutor's Office", "Advocacy", "Special Services", "Notary", "Human Rights Defender", "Public Service", "Law and Economics", "Lawmaking", "Economics and Law", " Russia and Europe ”,“ International Cooperation ”.

The award decision is made by the Expert Council’s majority vote. When choosing the laureates, the members of the Council are guided not by statistical indicators, but by the authority of specialists in the field of law and their services to society and the state.

The award is received by prominent people from the government and public, which includes recognized authorities of the legal community, experts and journalists. Among organizations receiving the award one must note the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation, the Federal Bailiffs Service, GlavUPDK at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.


This year the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Mr. Konstantin Kosachev won the Themis Award in the International Cooperation nomination, whereas in the Expert Activity nomination - the General Director of the National Medical Research Center Mr. Zurab Kekelidze.


The award is on an international status: the "Notary" nomination award was received by the chairperson of the Republican Chamber of Notaries of Kazakhstan, Asel Zhanabilova. In honor of the anniversary, a commemorative edition of the album "Themis - the Prize for a Lawyer" was released with the most significant moments in the history of the Award: the laureates in different years were Dmitry Medvedev (2007), Vyacheslav Lebedev (1998), Dmitry Kozak (2002), Konstantin Chuichenko (2018), Vitaly Churkin (2015) and others.


The Award was established in 1996 by the Moscow Lawyers' Club. The organizer of the award is the Themis Foundation. The prize is the highest public distinction awarded to Russian and foreign lawyers, statesmen and public figures of the Russian Federation and other countries.

The grounds for nominating candidates for the Themis Award may be details of professional and social activities, the opinion of the expert community, documents confirming the merits and achievements of the candidate in professional activity. The candidates for the award can be nominated by government authorities (both Russian and foreign), professional associations, public, commercial and non-commercial organizations, as well as past award winners.
